Type: Store, Restaurant, Multipurpose Centre

The intent of this project was to build a space that creates awareness about sustainable living practices and how easy it is to make these choices. Naturally, we had to incorporate the methods of sustainable design to such spaces.

We used materials from the existing structure to build the additional balcony, walls and roofs. The doors, windows and grills from the site were used to create the exterior walls, and two old wooden pillars were used as structural support for the balconies.

We have thoughtfully infused some South Indian elements in the roof of the multipurpose hall ceiling structure and wooden panels by creating patterns inspired by ‘Mandala’ style. We have also used traditional ‘Attangudi’ tiles for the flooring in a jigsaw pattern, and for the storage design we have used jute fabric paneled shutters.

Other sustainable systems in the project are solar panels, compost bins, and a rain water harvesting system.
